More and more people turn to natural and holistic treatments based on plants for a healthy lifestyle, a better physical condition and even certain medical affections. New research studies underline specific effects on a regular basis. Extracted from the mitragyna speciosa tree, kratom may still be a bit confusing to some.

Where does kratom come from?

Kratom is extracted from the leaves of mitragyna speciosa. The tree is extremely common in tropical and subtropical areas, but especially in Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Colombia and Venezuela. Leaves are left to dry, then ground and turned into powder. Effects of kratom mostly depend on what time in the growing cycle the leaves are harvested.

Can I grow my own kratom?

You can grow your own kratom if the climate in your area allows growing mitragyna speciosa. You need a dense soil rich in nutrients and a humid environment – cold winters could be a serious challenge for this tree. Furthermore, you must live in a tropical or subtropical area.

Growing the tree takes commitment. Harvesting leaves may not be the hardest job in the world, but getting there implies consistent conditions and care. Besides, it is worth noting that the tree takes years to grow to a decent size.

Do different strains of kratom have different effects?

Effects of kratom depend on when the leaves are harvested. Leaves change their colors and will go from green to red, then green, brown and yellow. Different stages have different alkaloid makeups and potency levels. This is why strains come with different colors.

However, there are a few other effects that will affect the strain and alkaloid makeup of kratom. Farmers often gain control over the process through various procedures for curing and drying the leaves. This is why different products may also have unique effects.

What is the best form of kratom to buy?

You can find kratom in more varieties. Capsules are quite common and obtained by grinding the leaves and encapsulating them. This is one of the easiest ways to benefit from kratom in terms of administration – swallow the capsule with a glass of water

You can also get the raw powder, then add it yourself to different foods – such as a healthy recipe, some pudding or perhaps a smoothie. Powders require a bit of preparation when compared to capsules, yet you can also just mix them with water and enjoy the drink.

Other forms of kratom are also available – choose whatever suits your lifestyle.

How much kratom can I take?

There is a general rule when it comes to kratom – avoid exceeding six grams for a dose. If you want mild effects, opt for a dose of four grams. It is more than enough for newbies and great for those with a bit of experience. If you are after stronger effects, go up to six grams, but do not exceed this dosage.

It is worth noting that you should allow at least four hours between two consecutive doses.
